Problems and Permeability

 

There use of multilayer plastics, compounds or coatings is ubiquitous. And in almost every product, package or piece of equipment where they are used, they are used for protection.  More often than not it is for protection against water or some other gas, liquid or hydrocarbon. Versaperm systems are dedicated to making sure the plastics do their job properly.

In a surprising number of materials they do not.  Take silicone or cellulose for example.  Both are widely used in industry and both are good at keeping liquids such as water out.  But when it comes to water vapour (moisture) they are little better than useless.   

Controlling this vapour permeability can prevent electronics from shorting out and failing, cases from leaking, and both food and pharmaceuticals from spoiling.  It can improve printing quality, protect your phone, TV and computer and even stop your cornflakes from going soggy.  

Versaperm equipment allows you to measure this permeability for everything from films and coatings through to finished products, produce and drug packaging.  It allows you to prevent failures and extend the shelf life.

The equipment is both sensitive and accurate, giving results with Parts Per Million (PPM) precision. For some sensitive vapours and materials, the results are a thousand times more accurate even than this.  It can measure several samples at a time and even control environmental conditions such as temperature and pressure.  It can cycle through diurnal or other variations.

It can be used across huge range of materials and all non-prohibited gasses – including water vapour, oxygen, helium, nitrogen CO2 and hydrocarbons. 

The modular approach means that the system can be customised to meet specific needs for around the same cost as a standard meter. Versaperm systems are used by companies, universities and National Standards Institutions around the world.
